About Classical Pilates
What is Classical Pilates?
Classical Pilates follows the original method created by Joseph Pilates, which he called Contrology. It's a complete system for developing awareness, strength, coordination, and control, not simply a workout.
How is it different from other Pilates classes?
The exercises work as a connected system, so each one has a purpose and a place in your progress. You return to the same exercises over time, and new challenges are added as your body develops. Precision and progression matter more than simply completing repetitions.
Do I need Pilates experience to start?
No. Bar works with clients at different levels, including people who are completely new to Pilates. Sessions are adapted to your experience and goals.
In-person sessions
Where are in-person sessions held?
In St. Pete, Tampa, and Clearwater. Bar will share the details with you when you get in touch.
What happens in the first session?
We start with an assessment. Bar builds a plan based on the physical assessment and a questionnaire, and then you start working. The plan is adjusted every week as your body changes.
Do you offer in-home sessions?
Yes, in St. Pete, Tampa, and Clearwater. Bar brings a mat, bands, blocks, and other accessories. You just need room for two people.
Do you use equipment other than the Reformer?
Yes. Sessions use all the equipment, including the Chair and the Cadillac, not only the Reformer.
Do you offer mat sessions?
Yes, one-on-one or in a small group. You don't need to bring anything.
Online sessions
How do online sessions work?
They're one-on-one sessions via Zoom, with individual attention and real-time feedback and corrections throughout.
Do I need Pilates equipment at home?
No. You don't need a fully equipped studio. Sessions are adapted to your space, your level, and whatever equipment you have available.
Can I join from outside the US?
Yes. Online sessions are available worldwide.
Instructor education
Who is instructor education for?
Pilates instructors who want to deepen their understanding of the Classical method, refine their eye, and teach with more precision and confidence. If you're currently in teacher training, you're welcome to get in touch too.
What can I work on?
Movement analysis, the connections within the Classical system, verbal cueing and tactile guidance, and your own personal practice. Learning is built through practice, analysis, and thoughtful discussion. You can work one-on-one or in a small group, in person or on Zoom.
Does it include a teaching certification?
No. This is practical education that deepens your understanding and your teaching. It isn't an accredited certification program.
